The JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 is the entry point into the PartyBox range: 100 W RMS from a 5.25-inch woofer and two dome tweeters, a dynamic lightshow synced to the music, 15 hours of battery, and two live inputs so somebody can sing or play along. At 6.2 kg it is light enough to carry to a rooftop or a beach, and IPX4 splash protection means a spilled drink is not a disaster. This is the Black colourway.
Key features & benefits
100 W RMS of JBL Pro Sound
A 135 mm woofer paired with two 20 mm dome tweeters reaches down to 40 Hz, which is the difference between a speaker that plays music and one that makes a room feel like a party.
AI Sound Boost
Real-time driver protection lets JBL push the amplifier harder than the cabinet would normally allow, so peak volume goes up without the bass turning to mush.
Dynamic lightshow
Glowing light patterns and strobe effects react to what is playing, and you can change the theme from the JBL PartyBox app or switch the lights off entirely.
Microphone and guitar inputs
Two live inputs are fitted - a mic input at 20 mV RMS and a guitar input at 100 mV RMS - with karaoke EQ tuning so vocals sit above the backing track. Note that microphones are not included.
Up to 15 hours of battery
A 34 Wh pack runs a full evening and recharges in 3.5 hours, and the USB-C port can push 11 V / 2 A back out to charge a phone.
Auracast stereo and multi-speaker
Pair two Encore Essential 2 units for true stereo, or broadcast to a wider group of Auracast speakers to cover a bigger space.
IPX4 splash protection
Rated against splashing water from any direction, so poolside and garden use are fine even if it is not built for submersion.
USB and aux playback
Beyond Bluetooth there is a 3.5 mm aux input and a USB port that reads MP3, WAV and FLAC files from a FAT16 or FAT32 drive.
Connectivity & compatibility
Bluetooth 5.4 with A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6, TMAP 1.0 and PBP 1.0 profiles, pairing with phones, tablets and laptops. Auracast supports true stereo pairing of two units and multi-speaker broadcast. Wired options are a 3.5 mm aux input, a USB-A port for direct file playback, a microphone input and a guitar input. USB-C is used for charging other devices at 11 V / 2 A. The JBL PartyBox app for iOS and Android controls music, EQ and the lightshow. Mains power comes through the supplied 2 m AC cord.
What's in the box
- JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 speaker (Black)
- AC power cord (2 m)
- Quick start guide
- Safety sheet and warranty card
Microphones are not supplied with this model. If you want a bundle that includes two wireless microphones, look at the JBL PartyBox Encore 2.
Care & safety
IPX4 covers splashes only - do not stand the speaker in the rain, hose it down or submerge it, and keep the rear panel connections dry. Wipe the grille with a dry cloth rather than a wet one. Charge indoors and let the unit reach room temperature before charging if it has been in a hot car. When storing it for a long period, charge to about half and top up every few months. Party speakers reach volumes that damage hearing quickly at close range, so keep listeners a sensible distance from the front baffle and take breaks.
Who it suits
People hosting gatherings at home, on a rooftop, at a chalet or in a garden who want more than a portable Bluetooth speaker but do not want to lug a full PA. The mic and guitar inputs suit casual karaoke and acoustic sets. If you need to cover a larger crowd or want microphones in the box, step up to the PartyBox Encore 2 or a larger PartyBox model; if you only need background music for a small room, a JBL Charge or Flip will be easier to live with.
