The JBL Xtreme 4 is a large-format portable Bluetooth speaker built for listening outdoors. A four-driver array backed by two JBL bass radiators fills a garden, a beach or a rooftop, while the detachable shoulder strap with its built-in bottle opener makes the 2.1 kg body easy to carry. It runs for up to 24 hours on a charge, adds another 6 with Playtime Boost, and its IP67 rating means dust and full immersion are simply not an issue.

Connectivity & compatibility

Bluetooth 5.3 with A2DP 1.3 and AVRCP 1.6, so it pairs with any modern phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV that supports Bluetooth audio. Multi-point lets two source devices stay connected at once. Auracast handles stereo pairing and multi-speaker broadcast; the JBL Portable app can also pair the Xtreme 4 with existing PartyBoost speakers. Charging and power-bank output both run through the single USB-C port, which accepts 5 V, 9 V, 12 V, 15 V and 20 V at 3 A.

Care & safety

Rinse the speaker with clean fresh water after contact with salt water, chlorine or sand, then let it dry fully before charging. Never connect the USB-C cable while the port area is wet. Keep the speaker out of direct sun for long periods and away from heat sources. If you are storing it, charge it to roughly half capacity and top it up every three months to protect the lithium-ion cells. Sustained high volume can damage hearing over time.

Who it suits

People who want one speaker for the beach, the chalet, the garden and the pool rather than a small speaker that struggles outdoors. The 30-hour battery and the power-bank output suit camping and long days away from mains power. If you want something pocket-sized instead, look at the JBL Grip or Clip range; if you mainly listen indoors, a soundbar will serve you better.
